Got tired one day looking for a phone number to a local business. I said to myself, there must be a better way.

I started to check other popular sites that promote business listings, but you need to enter information, you need to know postal codes, you need to select your choice from various drop down windows, and put up with a mass of ad's. And most of the time, most of the revenue for these listings go to one large company that has no ties to local business.

From months of research, I started off with a local site for the area in which I live, promoting Local Companies over outside interests. www.eelms.com is a working model of communityof.com. It has the most comprehensive business listing for the area. The I looked outside of the area and found that there are no business listings like this out there.

You can visit Chamber of Commerce websites and find the companies, again, this does not show all of the companies in the area, they most often only shows members and most times it is in alphabetical order.

Yes, I do like Google and I believe in what Serge Brin and Larry Page have done for the growth of public free information, and can only hope that they continue to support communities around the World with their unique and awe inspiring tools, like Google Earth, Google Maps and of course Google itself.
